Peer Education Alcohol Project
The final report of Mentor’s 2 year peer education project in Scotland, funded by Comic Relief. The report describes the methods we used to develop and deliver a peer education curriculum to over 200 young people across Scotland and to provide training to over 100 professionals.
It also describes the findings from the project and the impact that the project had on the peer educators, the young people who attended the sessions and the professionals who were trained.

Kinship Care
Mentor is managing a European project aimed at preventing young people in kinship care placements from having problems with drugs.
We have produced a number of publications as a result of this project some of which can be found here. For more information about the project please visit the project website.
The project is being supported by the European Union through the framework of the Public Health Programme.
Resource Guide
Mentor has produced a definitive guide for carers living in Scotland.
The aim is to provide them with a resource which provides a clear outline of their roles and responsibilities when thinking about becoming a full time carer of a close relative or friend’s child.
This guide aims to inform the kinship carer of each step of the process that they will be involved in, what support they may receive from their local authority and their financial and legal rights and responsibilities.
Resource and Training Pack
Bringing together our learning from the EU Kinship Carers Project we are proud to offer a pack of resources and training for professionals working with kinship carers. The pack includes:
- A Glossary of Key Terms
- The Needs Assessment Report
- The Project Literature Review
- The Key Findings from the Project
- A Training Resource for professionals
- Senarios to support the training
We have found that kinship carers too often face stigma and worry rather than respect and support.
We report on how policy makers and practitioners can improve life for carers and as a result help children and young people in kinship placements avoid the problems that drugs can cause.

BME and Rural Communities, Scotland
Mentor’s BME and Rural Community Alcohol Project (BARCA) was carried out by Mentor Scotland amongst young people from distinct Scottish communities, where key differences emerged. Successful alcohol education needed to employ a broad range of evidenced based early interventions both sensitive and appropriate to the local community, which should be youth-led.
The project also highlighted that, where harms are reduced, young people will actively choose healthier lifestyles. So successful prevention programmes may have additional and far-reaching outcomes. A full report is available here.
