About Mentor

Mentor is a UK charity which believes that prevention is better than cure and focuses our efforts on promoting the health and wellbeing of children and young people to reduce the damage that drugs can do to lives.

The short film (below) was made in 2009 to give a sense of what we do as a charity and how it fits into the wider context of work that other Mentor organisations do internationally.

Young people in the UK are amongst the highest users of drugs and alcohol in Europe, with 92% of school pupils saying they have drunk alcohol, 57% saying they have been drunk in the last year, and nearly 30% saying they’ve taken illegal drugs.

Mentor has a track record of developing the sector’s understanding of drug and alcohol prevention, bringing together evidence from across the globe with clear principles which have proven effects.

Our current work includes peer education, developing prevention resources with kinship carers, and youth involvement and diversionary work.

Wherever possible our project work is externally evaluated and the results published alongside the findings from our projects.

There is more information about each project on the current projects page.
